Welcome To UCHC
Providing an introduction to my Substack on analyzing companies, their financials, and most importantly, evaluating the strategy and leadership that is in charge of their company performance.
I have always been curious to how companies work that is revealed in their strategy and most importantly, their financials.
As soon as I enter the workforce a bit later in life than most, I had no background in business. I had no one that really taught me much in getting into business as an undergraduate because my focus at the time was to go to law school. However, as life would have it, I did something else for a few years before coming back to home.
My first job was in food operations in a meat processing plant. It was a tough, but humbling experience. It really tested me on understanding the critical need of operational leadership and experience in making not only a team do well, but how it builds up to to providing excellent service or product then ultimately, company performance.
It was my first experience to business. I was exposed early on on company politics, and how someone can easily contaminate your experience. But I was glad for it. It made me hungry to learn more.
Fast forward a little more years, being exposed to multiple aspects of food operations, supply chain management, and start-up life. I was consumed with markets, valuation, financial analysis, but really company performance.
By company performance, it is exactly that. I have a operator-focus mentality when it comes to steering the ship of these companies. It boggles my mind how the operational execution negatively impacts the company performance when the overall solutions to right the ship is so obvious to me.
For example, the current turnaround being done at Starbucks is now underway, but to me, that turnaround strategy was always obvious not only from the strategic standpoint on re-orienting the customer as the value proposition, but also controlling in costs and spend (e.g. on the menu and products, investing in marketing, etc.)
So, I decided to start this Substack to write out my thoughts and analysis.
So, why are we deciding this now?
I have decided to pursue at the recommendation of a few friends who are in finance because there might be a need for this alternative perspective. People who would enjoy someone that comes in with a viewpoint on how he or she would operate that company, but not only through a valuation analysis on the financials. But the actual execution, the work and plan that would be required.
That perspective is something that I want to provide because I like having a clear plan and strategy when it comes to operating companies.
I am focused on building a community of like-minded operators, focus who love following companies and see great potential, undervalued brands or firms, or folks who want to acquire or evaluate potential targets before Wall Street does.
I want to caveat that I am not an expert nor am I selling financial advice here. I am just doing a project out of passion because it keeps my mind healthy as well when it comes to financial strategy impacting company performance.
In my current job, I am a start-up that I started with two amazing partners. However, I do need to balance my time with family, friends, and even side-projects of my own. Being obsessed with work all the time is not healthy for any person’s well-being.
Strangely enough, doing these kinds of analysis continues my intellectual passion.
I look forward to having folks join me and continue to help me grow.
Thank you!
Okay, awesome, so what are we to expect in the new posts?
Next few posts are going to be focused on some undervalued companies, companies that are not performing to their potential, some companies that I believe are undervalued and will evaluate their turnaround strategy/plan to see if they are on the road to success.
I will be providing actual plans based on public data and using baseline references for modeling out these changes. If you have any additional questions, please reach out and I am more than happy to discuss with you where I may be helpful.
Otherwise, I plan to focus on mostly retail and CPG companies. Lots of companies where their is relation to my core strength as in CPG, food, consumer retail or services, etc.
I will be focused on providing two actual posts a month, but will frequently write more as needed. You can also follow me at X https://x.com/pjinhouse
Thanks.
